How BluntBuys researches and ranks products

BluntBuys publishes decision-first product reviews and ranked buying guides. Reviews are produced and checked by the BluntBuys Reviews Desk — the site's editorial desk. We credit the desk rather than inventing individual bylines, because a verdict is the product of the desk's shared research process.

Role: Editorial research and product scoring

The BluntBuys Reviews Desk is the site's in-house editorial team. It builds each verdict from primary documentation first (official product pages and manuals), then authorized retailer listings, reputable independent sources and recurring patterns in owner feedback. It does not accept payment from brands for coverage or placement.

Our editors compare manufacturer specifications where available, retailer information and recurring owner-feedback patterns before any verdict is published.

Help a buyer reach a confident decision in one page: what the product is, who it suits, what it costs, where it falls short, and which alternative to choose instead. A guide has failed if it is only useful to someone who clicks a retail link.

We score every product out of 10 from manufacturer specifications where available, retailer information, and recurring owner-feedback patterns — weighing everyday performance, build quality and price against directly comparable alternatives. We buy nothing from brands and revise a verdict whenever specs, pricing or reliability reports change.

Our recommendations may consider:

Factual and technical claims — battery life, waterproof or IP rating, dimensions, materials, charging time, blade or head type, warranty and included accessories — are taken in this order of authority, and are only stated when they can be traced to a source:

1. Official manufacturer product page
2. Official manual or support documentation
3. Authorized retailer listing
4. Reputable independent sources
5. Recurring customer feedback

Where only a retailer listing was available, the figure is described as retailer-listed — never as manufacturer-verified. Where nothing reliable was found, the exact number is dropped and the claim is qualified instead.

We do not claim to have physically tested the products we rank. Unless a guide states explicitly that a product was tested in person, our verdicts come from specification research, documentation review, feature and price comparison, and aggregated owner feedback. Our publishing system rewrites any testing language that is not backed by a verified hands-on record, so "we tested" never appears by default.

Every product carries a BluntBuys score out of 10. It is a weighted result, not an impression: each guide publishes the criteria and weights used for its category, and each product shows its per-criterion scores alongside the overall figure. Weighted criteria for a portable-speaker guide, for example:

The weighted mean of the per-criterion scores is the overall score, so the number always reconciles with the breakdown printed on the page.

A shortlist starts from the products a buyer in that category is realistically choosing between: mainstream availability, an identifiable manufacturer, and enough published documentation to compare honestly. Awards ("Best overall", "Best value") are assigned after scoring, and each guide explains why a product earned its specific award.

BluntBuys may earn a commission when you buy through links on our pages, at no additional cost to you. Commissions never influence rankings, scores or awards: brands cannot pay for placement, cannot review copy before publication, and cannot have a trade-off removed. Outbound commercial links are marked sponsored nofollow.

If we publish something inaccurate we correct the page itself rather than quietly deleting it, and the guide's "Last updated" date changes with the correction. Factual disputes about specifications are resolved in favour of the manufacturer's own documentation.

Guides are revisited when a ranked product is discontinued or replaced, when specifications or pricing change materially, or when reliability reports shift the balance of a verdict. Each page shows its published and last-updated dates, and the same dates are published in the page's structured data.
